I hope you are all enjoying March, and the beginning of spring (at least spring in Los Angeles ;)). Today I wanted to talk about beauty and body image. No, not outer beauty and other people's view of your body- but inner beauty and your own feelings.
Now, let me just start off by saying that I am in no way, totally happy with my body. I don't consider myself traditionally beautiful, but I do recognize that if I can't love my body, how can I truly love myself. As I've gotten older, I've become more and more comfortable with the way I look. I think that our bodies are a canvas for us to display the beautiful artwork of our inner beauty. Maybe that's why I dress the way I dress, or present myself in the way I do.
Have you ever heard the saying, "You must love yourself before you can love anybody else"? Well, I think that this is only partly true. Sometimes it's much easier to love somebody else, and almost put yourself aside. But, I think that the real message of this saying, is that you must be open to accepting yourself, before you are open to accepting anybody else. This is a process, and it may take a long time to accept yourself, but the moment you open your mind to it, then you become much more aware of who you really are.
So, is it okay to accept compliments- or should we reject them? IT IS TOTALLY OKAY TO ACCEPT COMPLIMENTS, and recognize how good that feels! You deserve all the compliments anyone could ever give you! Now, I could go on and tell you how incredibly beautiful you are inside and out blah blah blah- but that isn't as important as telling yourself those things. Go in front of a mirror, and tell yourself how beautiful you truly are. Doesn't that feel good?!
Don't fret if this isn't easy (it isn't meant to be). Accepting yourself will take time, but I am going through this, just as you are too.
